Can someone tell me what this sculpture is that I remember from childhood, 40 years ago?
I've been looking for the name and image of a sculpture I knew as a child. It was a violent sculpture of a half-naked wild-haired man, (perhaps Greek god?) reaching backward over his shoulder to drag a nude woman by the hair. I'm guessing that the original was created in Roman times. The 8 inch high replica on our mantelpiece was made of plaster of paris, it felt like chalk, and I think my father picked it up in a tourist trap in Europe while he was in the Air Force. I've looked through many webpages of pictures of sculptures with no luck. Thank you for your help! ~ Sam in South Dakota
I couldn't find a sculptural image, but this sounds a lot like the rape of Cassandra by (Lesser) Ajax. There are several vase paintings illustrating her being dragged by the hair. Maybe this is the same subject. Hope this helps.
