Why do many people perceive Desdemona as pure and innocent and compare her to the Virgin Mary and Jesus?
She is entirely blameless. I've never heard her compared to Jesus, though.
She is faithful to her husband, which in Shakespeare's day was the only 'honor' a woman needed. (Men, of course, had to be brave, noble,etc. to be honorable).
She was 'pure' in that she was never with anyone but her husband, and therefore 'innocent' of any of the sins that might spot the marriage.
