Going from dark brunette to blonde - can it be done cheaply without brass tones?
The salon said it would be about $100 to go from dark brunette to platinum blonde but it seems like Sally's beauty supply should be able to sell me something that would take my hair to platinum with no problem in one application and then do a deep conditioning treatment to make my hair healthy again... Any ideas?
I'm looking for answers to my question, not comments on how you feel about the matter. All to respect, I'm going blonde one way or another.
Yeah, but it won't be a situation where you put the hair dye on, wait 40 minutes and you're hair is a gorgeous blonde. It will take a few months, perhaps. Because, your hair requires a lot of attention and nourishment, and if you dye your hair, and then dye it a few days later, this could make the hair go terribly wrong, you need to let your hair set and get used to the new colour. 
So, if you're hair isn't naturally brunette, get your hair colour stripped so it all goes to your natural hair colour, and then bleach your hair the colour you want and then add a blonde colour to your hair, hopefully this will help, if not, i suggest taking your hair to your local hairdresser.
After you've gotten to your ideal colour, deeply condition your hair (it's just been beaten to death with stinkin' dye!!) as your hair is very brittle at this time, if you can, avoid straightening your hair for at least a few days so your hair can gain some more strength.
